What is BS8406?
BS8406 the standard for companies that provide staff for events such as festivals, concerts and sporting events. BS8406:2020 is the latest version of this Standard and the version that we, at Checkback, work to for BS8406 checks.
It covers, in particular, the processes and procedures that stewarding and event companies need to have in place to ensure you’re giving your customers the very best level of service possible. BS8406 is especially helpful for companies employing stewards and security staff directly as it includes policies that are very practical and can be implemented into your planning.
What does BS8406 stand for?
If you supply stewards and or security to the events industry, the British Standard BS8406 is the gold standard for your sector. You may find that suppliers will ask if you comply with specific sections or the standard as a whole before they will review proposals or tenders.

BS8406 deals with the complex needs of the event industry and is aimed at contractors that provide stewarding for larger events and festivals. BS8406 may not be targeted at those running a small community, like a village fair or a small festival, but it does offer some helpful information and points to consider, regardless of the size of your event. BS8406 is a code of practice that all event contractors should aim to get close to and larger firms should absolutely comply with.

BS8406 Certificate
On completion of the required checks, your organisation will be deemed to have attained a BS8406, the British Standard. At this point, a BS8406 Certificate is issued.
